Basic Function

The Traction Power Supervisor is a first line supervisor responsible for electronic and mechanical equipment maintenance activities of rail infrastructure.  This position is responsible for direct supervision of Traction Power Technicians ensuring the highest standards are maintained. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g. training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
  • Observes equipment installations and tests on equipment and reports any noted deficiencies.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and tools necessary for work crews to perform routine and special tasks.
  • Maintain, update, audit and supervise inspection and maintenance programs and personnel.
  • Ensures variable shift coverage to accommodate maintenance assignments during peak, off-peak and non-revenue hours.
  • Assigns and verifies inspections and repairs.
  • Prioritizes emergency and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Assists in the development and refinement of inspection and preventive maintenance programs Standard Operating Procedures, safety procedures and work rules.  Complies with all safety, operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Performs troubleshooting, inspections, testing, modifications, maintenance and repair.
  • Analyzes systems by reading and interpreting a variety of data downloads from analyzers and event recorders. 
  • Inspects, repairs and maintains mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. 
  • Records and documents maintenance and diagnostic data.
  • Provides coordination of “red-tag” field activities.
  • Successfully complete vendor training on systems equipment and maintenance procedures as well as METRO training associated with safety and technical subjects.
  • Assists with on-going training and certification activities.
  • Provides contractor field oversight.
  • Acts as Chief Traction Power during absences. 
  • Participates in accident investigation teams and recommends corrective actions as necessary.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High school diploma or GED required is required.  Additional technical training courses preferred.
 

Years & Experience Required

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible, journey-level mechanical, electrical and/or electronic maintenance experience.  Must include lead/supervisory experience.  Experience with transit system equipment (Traction Power) and tools are mandatory.
 

Knowledge & Skills Required

Possession of a Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.  Must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records.  Good (verbal and written) communications skills are essential. Ability to communicate well with management, consultants, technicians, and engineers to resolve maintenance issues. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
