Server Support Specialist III

Basic Function
Supports, monitors, tests and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to the Windows desktop and server environment. Participates in requirements definition, specification, design, development and integration of server technology. Installs and configures servers and system software. Provides configuration, inventory, fault and trouble management of data center and end user computing systems. Helps business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Supports, monitors, tests and troubleshoots operating systems in the desktop and server environments.
- Supports, monitors, tests and troubleshoots Windows desktop and server operating systems and hardware especially as they relate to system configuration manager patch/software deployments.
- Responsible for preparing systems for upgrades of desktop operating system version.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery procedures and documentation.
- Develops and implements procedures and documentation for patch management, operating system deployment as well as other system configuration manager functions.
- Provide system metrics, root cause analysis and proactive monitoring.
- Recommend and schedule maintenance and repairs.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for all systems.
- Manages assigned work orders.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $84,300 - $110,700
Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum four (4) years’ experience in relevant computing environment. Substantial knowledge and hands-on experience in maintaining, operating and trouble-shooting an enterprise end user computing environment. Substantial knowledge of VMWare virtualization systems. Microsoft Power Shell scripting desirable. Experience with Microsoft Intune desirable.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Must have strong knowledge of desktop and server operating system environments. Must be able to apply strong knowledge of concepts, best practices and procedures for supporting Intel based blade system servers. Must have significant experience in managing, maintaining and implementing enterprise systems including applying software upgrades, security patches and planned maintenance for these systems. Ability to apply technical understanding to a broad range of technical solutions and interact with vendors and technical staff in the data center server environment. Good analytical skills in understanding complex relationships between various operating systems and specialty applications. Excellent customer service and organizational skills, with strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Desire one or more certifications: MCSE, VMWare. Must pass a criminal background check to be cleared to work in a public safety environment with access to Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) data.
