Basic Function
Responsible for development of METROBus and METRORail operating schedules (trips, blocks, run cutting, and rostering) for at least one facility (bus or rail). Responsible for maintaining transit operating schedules assuring efficient and cost-effective operation of the transit system. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Responsible for the schedule development, run-cutting, and rostering of transit schedules for at least one facility (bus or rail).
- Develops and maintains schedule changes performing quality control to assure accuracy, completeness, and relevance of schedules for three service changes, unscheduled service adjustments, and special requests each year.
- Maintains thorough and clear documentation of proposed service changes, and cost impact on the operating budget.
- Incorporates route and schedule changes into all affected documents and downstream technology systems (e.g. operator paddles, public guides, maps, destination signs, IVOMS, SAP, and PERDIS)
- Performs analyses of the data needs for the downstream technology systems, and how the schedule and route data impact their performance.
- Develops strategies for enhancement of transit service and effective utilization of resources.
- Communicates and coordinates schedule changes and sign-up processes with other personnel.
- Performs quality assurance/quality control for public timetable information and route maps.
- Investigates and responds to customer inquiries.
- Exports schedule data from Trapeze and MobileStatistics into Excel to perform advanced level analytical work to evaluate ridership trends and service reliability.
- Provides training on data structures and intricacies of the Trapeze scheduling system as required.
- Participates in new systems acquisition and serves as project manager when required.
- Participates in ongoing mentoring and training of new employees.
- Responsible for self-development and enhancement of analytical, communication and IT skills.
- Rides assigned bus routes to monitor and evaluate route performance including ridership, on-time
- performance, accuracy of bus stop data, operator’s performance, and other useful metrics.
- Prepares periodic formal reports (summary of schedules, and weekly, monthly, and annual NTD reports).
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $68,000 - $89,300
Education Requirement
High school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation Planning or a related degree is preferred.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum five (5) years of transit operations experience to include experience in using automated scheduling and run cutting software such a Trapeze or HASTUS, or transportation data research/analysis using CAD/AVL system software.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Knowledge of public transportation infrastructure and operations including network definition/development, service scheduling, and development of vehicle and operator work assignments. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication (written/verbal) skills including presentation skills. Advanced Microsoft suite application skills. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships both internally and externally.
