Basic Function

Responsible for operating a variety of automated and non-automated sheet fed lithographic offset printing equipment.  Produces printing requiring black and white and spot color, as well as four-color process printing. Performs reproduction services by operating and maintaining printing equipment and files.  Performs daily maintenance of equipment.  Assists in the Network Production Digital Printing Systems, which includes black and white toner base systems and full color toner systems.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Evaluates printing runs to determine required needs for each project, as well as quantities of paper stock, ink, plates and negatives for offset presses to provide a finished product.
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish each job in the proper time allocated.
  • Coordinates digital files from PDF for offset masters and negatives in an accurate sequential order.
  • Adjusts offset printing press equipment for specific operations, such as half-tones, single, multiple color as well as four color process reproduction on various paper stocks and weights in perfect registration.
  • Adjusts all bindery finishing equipment such as Horizon automated floor model folder, drill press, grommet machine and Horizon cutter/slitter/perforator.
  • Performs bindery duties such as padding, perfect binding, GBC binding, Velo binding, folding, drilling paper, cutting paper for preparation and completion for any jobs.
  • Coordinates maintenance of floor copiers; determines the cause of equipment failure and submits work order request to vendor for repair.
  • Maintains paper inventory for offset printing.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in operating offset printing equipment in a medium to large volume reproduction operation.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Working knowledge of offset printing up through 12x18, 2-color presses. Working knowledge of high-speed network devices and other similar equipment.   Knowledge of wide format roll-to-roll network device as well as wide format flat bed and other equipment.  Working knowledge of PRISMAprepare document preparation software, Adobe PDF Plug-Ins and Onyx RIP software.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  Must be able to operate all press room equipment and high-speed duplicators.  Good communications (written/verbal) skills.
