Basic Function

Advances the purpose and mission of METRO through the preparation of competitive grant proposals supporting the funding of strategic investments approved by the METRO Board of Directors.  Collaborates with executives and program managers on investment priorities to inform and support research on grant opportunities.  Identifies grant requirements, coordinates with other METRO staff, and drafts the actual grant proposal. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Studies and understands the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.
  • Researches grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
  • Works with program or project staff to understand potential project and program eligibility for specific grant opportunities and grant requirements.
  • Examines alignment of grant opportunities with significant Authority goals and priorities through discussions with METRO Leadership. 
  • Works collaboratively across METRO departments and partner organizations to identify grant priorities, roles, and responsibilities for the response to grant opportunities. 
  • Facilitates support from key elected officials and stakeholders. 
  • Creates effective intra and interagency teams to effectively deliver successful grant proposals. 
  • Drafts grant proposals and assembles supporting documents based on the requirements of the grantor organization or agency.
  • Submits grant proposals to internal project and program managers as well as METRO’s Executive Leadership for approval.
  • Submits completed grant proposals to external grantor organizations in coordination with the METRO Grants Department.
  • Responds to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Maintains records and in coordination with the METRO Grants Department, supports submittal of required reports to grantor organizations or agencies.
  • Maintains positive relationships with grantor agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or related area required.  Master’s degree preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Eight (8) years’ experience in grant writing and demonstrated ability to manage grant development activities.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Excellent communication skills (written/verbal); knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising processes; strong research skills and knowledge of information sources; organizational and time management skills; working knowledge of common business software, such as Microsoft Office.
