Basic Function

Responsible for the collection and transportation of fare revenue from the Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) to the Vault Room; replenishing fare media stock, receipt paper, coin vaults, coin hoppers, bill vaults and coin management of the re-circulating change magazines at the TVM’s and replenish the coin and bill modules at the parking machines as required; may assist the Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field) or TVM Technicians with the maintenance of the TVM’s and METRO Police regarding fare issues at the rail stations. Provides excellent customer service at all TVM and parking machine locations. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Reviews the scheduled daily pickup plan with Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field).
  • Reviews pickup routes, alternate routes and emergency procedures with METRO Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field).
  • Reviews TVM reports prior to departing the Vault Room to determine which TVM’s are to be serviced.
  • Prepares revenue van and its communication equipment to ensure they are in good working condition for revenue operations before leaving the Vault Room.
  • Loads and secures replacement bills vaults, coins vaults, coin hoppers, ticket stocks, receipt stocks and supplies required for the trips.
  • Checks TVM and parking machines to ensure they are in proper working condition including: stainless steel cabinet, lighting fixtures, access door, ventilation system, display screen, voice instructions, coin and bill slots, ticket/coin trays, in-service/out of service indicators, information signage, etc.
  • Reports any defects to the Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field) and Electronic Maintenance as needed.
  • Removes, replaces bill vaults, coin vaults and coin hoppers.
  • Replenishes coins in the TVM Re-circulating Change Storage magazine as needed.
  • Checks and replenishes the Ticket Dispensing System with ticket and receipt stocks as needed.
  • Checks ticket issuing unit, printer, ticket feeder and cutter unit for proper operation.
  • Transports the fare revenue from bus and rail stations and parking machines to the Vault Room. 
  • Secures revenue van and equipment for the next day revenue operations.
  • Reports any revenue servicing failures to the Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field). Reports TVM damage or vandalism to METRO Police and/or METRO Dispatch.
  • Coordinates with Supervisor Fare Media Agent (Field) and Electronic Maintenance the periodic preventive maintenance of the TVMs.
  • Provides full customer service at the rail stations.
  • Assists Maintenance staff in maintaining the revenue van.

  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High school or GED required.

Years & Experience Required

Basic knowledge of the METRO Q Card fare collection system. Minimum three (3) years Revenue or related operations experience.

Knowledge & Skills Required

A valid Texas Driver’s license is required for the job and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Familiarity with METRO’s Q Card system is preferred.  Knowledge of METRO’s geographical area and light rail routing system is a plus.  Good communications skills (written/verbal). Working knowledge of PC’s, familiar with PC networking and with Windows Operating System. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
