Basic Function

Performs electronic equipment maintenance functions in the following areas:

  1. Non-Revenue vehicle mobile radio
  2. METROLift MDC/Ranger Units     
  3. Support vehicle emergency lighting
  4. Other electronic equipment
  5. MetroLift Radio
  6. Mobile access routers
  7. Police Vehicle equipment support                           

Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.                      

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Maintains radio systems in support vehicle fleet. Performs troubleshooting and diagnosis of system related failures.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance of radio electronic equipment assigned to all support vehicles. Provides radio diagnostic support to METROLift and MV Transportation contractors.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance of all mobile access router equipment assigned to all support vehicles.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance to all electronic equipment assigned to the support vehicle fleet.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance to all emergency lighting assigned to the support vehicle fleet.
  • Provides installation / troubleshooting support to all Mobile Data Terminal equipment in the METRO Police fleet.
  • Coordinates with external vendors on all new vehicle purchases to ensure decommissioning and up-fit of new equipment is performed properly. 
  • Serves as technical advisor to the facility superintendent/foreman on electrical and electronic systems.
  • Observes and adheres to all policies and guidelines within METRO.
  • Verifies reported defects and corrects/clears defects using logical troubleshooting methods. 
  • Maintains computer records and completes all paperwork documentation required for completing non-warranty or warranty work history on assigned vehicles.  Prepares and submits reports to the Maintenance Foreman as required.
  • Ensures the security of all equipment, keys, and vehicles while on duty.  Keep service vehicles in clean, safe operating order.
  • Ensures immediate work area adheres to proper housekeeping procedures. 
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Associates degree in Electronic Technology is required.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum two (2) years of technical training in electronic technology, or four (4) years of hands-on electronic maintenance experience is required.

Knowledge & Skills Required

A valid Texas driver’s license (Class C) is required for this position and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records.  Working knowledge of personal computers and related software.  Good communication (written and verbal) skills.
