Basic Function

Responsible for the efficient execution of METRO’s service through the direction of Service Supervision and Bus Control.  Responsible for training of supervisory staff to ensure effective changes in service to meet our customers’ needs.  Ensures consistency in work performance over the street operations.  Assists in developing strategies focusing our resources on the core business of providing reliable and safe service.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g. training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
  • Manges service through the use of IVOMS technology.
  • Manages the distribution of supervision to maximize resources.
  • Responsible for oversight of Incident Command at TranStar Bus Control.
  • Identifies business strategies and processes to enhance our service.
  • Develops techniques for monitoring and measuring effectiveness of business processes.
  • Keeps management abreast of all pertinent information regarding street operations at the facilities.
  • Responsible for logistic planning and execution of major events.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of an emergency plan for the service area.
  • Assists the Senior Director, Transportation on special projects as required.
  • Assumes the duties of the Senior Director, Transportation in the event of absence
  • Assists in the development of Operations budget.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field is preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum ten (10) years progressive experience transit experience specific to bus operations, passenger relation and street supervision. Experience in the day-to-day operation of micro-transit and Bus Rapid Transit. Experience in the use of the latest service monitoring tools such as GPS tracking and transit service management systems.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Knowledge of basic traffic engineering principles.  Excellent communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills.  Excellent organizational and decision-making skills.  Strong public relations skills with the ability to effectively work with all levels of management and the public.
