Digital Publishing Operator

Basic Function
Under general supervision, operates network high volume color, black and white digital production publishing systems for various printed materials. Responsible for computer data entry of all Printing Services requisitions. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Analyzes each new job request for standardization. Directs originators and multiple users in the most cost/time efficient design, manufacturing, storage, distribution, and retrieval decisions. Establishes reproduction method for computer forms processing, hard copy, electronic publishing or offset printing.
- Interfaces with customers to provide technical assistance and schedule job production.
- Completes network transfers and file conversions.
- Coordinates file preparation with Prisma Prepare and/or other software for the production of high-volume production publishing systems.
- Operates a high-speed network publisher and other similar equipment in the reproduction of single or multi-color work from master originals or network-transferred files.
- Performs bindery duties such as padding with perfect binder, GBC binding, drilling paper, and operates Horizon perf/slitting machine.
- Adjusts printing services equipment, such as high-volume digital production publishing systems, folder, drill press, and bindery finishing equipment. Maintains Printing Services equipment and conducts inspections to maintain good working conditions.
- Compiles daily and monthly reports such as employee daily production, monthly volume production, comparison cost savings and other reports as needed.
- Archives print orders received via the network and originals scanned into the system to the hard drive.
- Maintains paper inventory for Printing Services. Tracks paper distribution and establishes reorder points.
- Assists in the maintenance of floor copiers, determines the cause of equipment failure, and submits service request order to vendor for repair.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $37,200 - $46,900
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum three (3) years’ experience performing network transfer and publishing services in a medium to large volume production operation. Experience should include one (1) year performing reproduction duties.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Working knowledge of high-volume copy and network publishing equipment (color and black & white), wide format printers, computer and publishing software, high volume collating and bindery equipment.
