Basic Function

Operates as the in-house Database and SAP Basis expert, coordinating multiple projects and resources, and provides guidance and direction to other Database/Basis administrators.  Responsible for the design, implementation, administration and maintenance of SAP Servers, SAP HANA databases, Sybase ASE, SQL Server, Oracle and other related duties.  Ensures availability of SAP and database systems 24/7, system integrity, security, backups and performance of all supported METRO systems.  Develops SAP Basis standards and tracks all application activities.  Participates as a team member in multi-disciplined teams to successfully implement and support systems.  Provides on-call support on nights and weekends, as needed. Promotes safety awareness and other employee safety procedures in efforts to reduce or eliminate accidents.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Responsible for implementing, configuring, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting the SAP technology landscape, and corporate SQL Server/Oracle database environments.
  • Operates as the in-house expert on highly complex systems and projects. Leads and provides guidance to DBA levels I and II.
  • Monitors, maintains, documents processes/resolutions to issues, predicts SAP Applications performance to meet established service levels, and scheduling/executing the SAP transport system.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting SAP Basis, SAP Portal, SAP UI, SQL Server, and Oracle issues. 
  • Responsible for rapid repair and recovery in system failure situations
  • Responsible for tracking and managing all security certificates and licenses for SAP, SQL Server, and Oracle.
  • Responsible for implementation and testing of SAP Application patches and SAP NetWeaver/Support Pack, SAP Kernel upgrades, Microsoft KBs, and Oracle updates using a structured methodology.
  • Perform SAP system refresh and related configuration, as well as SQL Server and Oracle updates/upgrades as needed.
  • Introduce technical changes into the environment using a structured approach that minimizes risk and achieves high reliability, availability and performance of each SAP instance.
  • Establishes maintenance plans for each SAP Application, to include backups and recovery.
  • Maintain the existing SAP Landscape diagrams and document all processes including SQL Server/Oracle databases.
  • Optimizes SAP application and SQL Server/Oracle database performance to ensure a high-level of performance.
  • Performs all facets of applications maintenance, including off hours support during server OS patching.
  • Ensures that all actions are in compliance with established internal controls and change management processes.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining disaster recovery plans in compliance with the departmental and organizational disaster recovery plans.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and security of sensitive data.
  • Relies on significant experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Promotes safety awareness and other employee safety procedures in efforts to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum of seven (7) years’ professional experience in relevant SAP Basis administration.  Expert level experience in SAP NetWeaver Administration, SAP Java Stack, SAP HANA, Linux and Sybase ASE.  Significant experience in implementing and managing SAP solutions. Highly experienced in day to day SAP NetWeaver, SAP HANA Administration tasks including yearly, monthly and weekly SAP Basis/SAP HANA operations. Demonstrated experience in SAP upgrades, patch management and troubleshooting.  Knowledge of SQL Server and Oracle databases. Experience in coordinating and managing multiple projects and resources.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Strong customer service and organizational skills.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. One or more certifications in database administration is desirable: SAP Basis Administration, SAP HANA.
