Basic Function

The Criminal Intelligence Analyst provides critical analytical support to law enforcement operations by collecting, evaluating, interpreting, and presenting crime data. This role identifies patterns, trends, and emerging issues to assist in strategic planning, resource allocation, and investigative efforts. The analyst ensures accurate and timely data and intelligence to enhance public safety and operational efficiency. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Conducts comprehensive research and analysis on criminal data provided by investigators, police personnel, and data sources to identify patterns, relationships, and trends in criminal activity.
  • Compiles and analyzes data to establish links between criminals, criminal activities, and provides actionable intelligence for operational strategies.
  • Prepares, edits, and revises detailed reports, special projects, and publications on criminal associations and crime patterns to support law enforcement efforts and response to criminal activities.
  • Evaluates and assures quality of data submitted into CAD/RMS for accuracy and completion.
  • Prepares materials necessary to respond to inquiries regarding criminal activity, trends, and patterns.
  • Prepares maps, charts, and graphs indicating criminal trends and recommend solutions to reduce crime.
    Utilizes GIS mapping and statistical software for crime pattern visualization.
  • Interfaces with counterparts from other agencies, including federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations, to ensure the sharing of relevant information and updates on criminal activity.
  • Assists with reports, presentations, graphs, charts, and other information for presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manages databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications.
  • Evaluates and provides recommendations for improving workflows, processes, and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal intelligence-gathering operations.
  • Evaluates and correlates new information with existing data to locate suspects and witnesses in support of ongoing investigations.
  • May provide testimony in court regarding findings and analysis related to criminal investigations when required.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and support all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Pay Range: $56,500 - $74,000

Education Requirement

Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Science, Statistics, or a closely related field required.

Years & Experience Required

A minimum of two years of experience as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst. A minimum of four years of related experience in law enforcement or a position requiring analytical and practical skills relevant to crime analysis and intelligence work preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Advanced knowledge of business intelligence tools, databases, and statistical methods used in criminal intelligence analysis. Proficient understanding of police terminology, uniform crime report codes, and penal codes. Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and make strategic recommendations based on findings. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing clear, concise reports and presenting findings effectively.
Critical thinking and data-driven decision-making. Confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information. Certification in Criminal Intelligence Analysis or related fields (e.g., International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) certification) or other relevant certifications in law enforcement or intelligence analysis preferred.

This position requires a background check. Common disqualifiers include, but are not limited to:

  • Class A or Felony conviction or court-ordered supervision or probation regardless of date of conviction.
  • Class B conviction or court-ordered supervision or probation within the past 10 years.
