Basic Function

Supports the day-to- day operation of METRO’s ITCS, CCTV, and Radio Communications System including troubleshooting and repairing radio equipment located throughout the various METRO facilities and radio sites.  Assists the Electronic Maintenance staff in the daily maintenance and repair of all assigned mobile and electronic fare recovery, communications, and surveillance equipment.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Supports the day-to-day operation of radio dispatch centers and remote communications (radio) sites.
  • Performs general and preventive maintenance and repair of all subsystems associated with METRO’s radio communications system to include: Dispatcher workstations, Trunking Radio Equipment sites, and Recorders.
  • Assists with asset management, record keeping, and FCC- required record keeping or action.
  • Maintains Trunking Radio System subscriber, and Alias database.
  • Ensures that the system backups/restorations, process monitoring, emergency management, and business continuity documentation are accurate and complete.
  • Works with IT resources on capacity planning, system performance, utilization monitoring and reporting, and system security.
  • Assists in establishing operations processes and procedures, tool sets, and standards to maximize the productivity of the Radio Communication System and other Electronic Systems.
  • Assists in the development, review and coordination of technical specifications for new electronic equipment; participates as key committee member for acquisition of new electronic technologies.
  • Performs bench repair on radio equipment.
  • Participates in training of employees in maintenance of radio electronic equipment.
  • Acts as technical advisor to employees in the field.
  • Provides the necessary electronic technical support for privatized support contracts.
  • Assists Foreman/Technicians/Specialists in assuring quality and timely repairs.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree in Electronics Engineering Technology.

Years & Experience Required

Five (5) years’ experience in support of a complex radio communication system preferred.  Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation and system maintenance of Trunking Radio Systems, Radio /AVL CAD systems, and Motorola Smartnet / SmartZone radios system preferred.  High proficiency and experience with electronic diagnostic troubleshooting and repair equipment, tools, and techniques.

Knowledge & Skills Required

FCC General Radio Telephone License, and related industry certifications.  Working knowledge of Federal Communications Rules and Regulations.  Working knowledge of relational databases, LANs, PCs, and peripherals.  Good (verbal/written) communications skills.  Experience in transit industry bus operations preferred.
