College Intern - Rail Safety

Basic Function
Professional learning experience in Safety - Rail where an undergraduate or graduate student participant gains practical work experience in Rail Safety Management projects. Gains knowledge on how Rail Safety experts oversee Rail Operations, related safety processes, and how they deal with safety issues. Duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Work with Rail Safety Management and take the lead role on gathering, organizing and creating a comprehensive instructional manual of job duties for New Rail Safety Officers.
- Work with Rail Safety Management to determine the best way to organize Rail drives.
- Work with Rail Safety Management and determine what files have met the Records Retention period.
- Contribute to a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Attends and participates in meetings.
- Assist the Rail Safety Managers with assignments given.
- Create a working matrix of the TxDOT State Safety Oversight Program Standard requirements.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year).
Years & Experience Required
Currently enrolled in an accredited education institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours. GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Degree program relative to intern assignment, such as Safety, Finance, Business, Marketing, etc.
