Basic Function

Under the guidance of Planning Program Manager, the Intern will engage in a professional learning experience where an undergraduate or graduate student participant gains practical work experience, organization knowledge and business acumen related to project development daily activities. Internships begin with orientation in June and conclude in early August. Intern will work 40 hours per week.  Specific duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Assignments may include responsibilities in one or more of the following areas:

  • Compile and Consolidate document comments
  • Site visits and background research
  • Assist on other METRONext projects as necessary
  • Assist with other departmental responsibilities as needed such as taking notes, recording actions, creating agendas, and preparing exhibits. 
  • Interact with subject matter experts
  • Contribute to departmental goals and objectives   
  • Suggests solutions to business issues and challenges
  • Attend interagency meetings and assist with public outreach by attending public meetings as needed
  • Assists in functional and/or business analytics
  • Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports
  • Assists with client consulting and support
  • Assists with procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc.
  • Contributes to a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year) in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related degree program.

Years & Experience Required

Currently enrolled in an accredited education institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours.  GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Knowledge of urban and environmental planning language a plus
