Basic Function
Upon successful completion of the Bus Repair C Maintenance Training Program, the Bus Mechanic Trainee is responsible for assisting as directed, in the diagnosis and repair of all Brake and Chassis related defects on METRO revenue vehicles. Must be able to make repairs and adjustments of components or systems and show a proficient knowledge and use of equipment or specialized tools common to the Transit Bus Repair “C” classification. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Successfully complete the Bus Repair C Maintenance Training Program (BRCMTP).
- Successfully obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Transit Bus Certificate H4 Brakes and/or H5 Suspension and Steering as required in the BRCMTP.
- Successfully obtain ASE Transit Bus Certificate H4 Brakes, or H5 Suspension & Steering, within 12 months after successful completion of the 11-month classroom/lab portion of the BRCMTP.
- Accountable for the upkeep and replacement of missing or broken issued loaner tools and storage box.
- Assists with diagnosing, testing and repairing all Brake and Chassis related defects on METRO’s revenue vehicle fleet under the supervision of the Mechanical Foreman.
- Assists with Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) as required.
- Maintains work area appearance and safety.
- Completes all required reports and records in a timely and accurate fashion, to include WO input utilizing SAP UI.
- Performs all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
- Assists other Bus Maintenance personnel as assigned.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Pay Range: $21.96
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Graduation from a related technical school is preferred.
Years & Experience Required
General mechanic work experience and must successfully pass a reading, math and mechanical aptitude test prior to an interview.
Knowledge & Skills Required
A valid Texas Drivers’ License is required for the job and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Must obtain a Class B CDL with “P” endorsement as part of the BRCMTP. Able to maintain or obtain additional certifications/licenses as required. Ability to complete written reports, records and forms. Must be able to speak, read and write English.
