Basic Function

Functions as an Associate Transit Planner in providing technical transit planning work focusing on both short and long-range planning.  Under direct supervision will assist with federal government transit programs, grants administration and providing support to project managers by conducting research, compiling information, and coordinating with other METRO departments and area agencies to implement METRO’s plans and programs.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

•    Initially meets and works with all divisions of Planning, Engineering & Construction for an overall perspective of PEC processes including but not limited to Planning, Engineering Operations Engineering Construction, Project Control and Quality Assurance.
•    Will be introduced to METRO’s core departments to learn basic overall knowledge of METRO.
•    Assist with conducting required background research and data collection to support recommendations for system development, support on planning studies and pilot projects.
•    Assist with providing support in developing scopes of work and schedules, related budget cost controls, technical analysis and coordination, quality control and general project delivery.
•    Assist with coordination with all project managers to track and report work progress. 
•    Assist with basic preparation and coordination of all division documents going to the METRO Board of Directors. 
•    Assist with coordination of Capital Projects / Environmental planning efforts internally with other departments.
•    Provides basic support for development and maintenance of METRO’s Long-Range Plan.
•    Provides support for development of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) which allows METRO to pursue federal funding for capital projects and programs.
•    Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
•    Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP)
•    Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to eliminate accidents. 
•    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in planning, civil engineering, construction management architecture or related degree. 

Years & Experience Required

College internship experience in planning, technical analysis and coordination, knowledge in research and data collection, budget cost controls, project coordination preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Good communication skills (written and verbal).  Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills.  Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Word, excel and PowerPoint)
