Basic Function

Functions as an Associate Engineering undergraduate in providing engineering support.  Under direct supervision will learn basic overall knowledge of the planning, engineering, and construction process. Assist with engineering duties and assignments that may include the development of engineering documents, reports, estimates, and other engineering related duties as assigned. May interacts with the City of Houston, Harris County, and other government entities and agencies within METRO’s region.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

•    Initially meets and works with all divisions of Planning, Engineering & Construction for an overall perspective of PEC processes including but not limited to Planning, Engineering, Operations Engineering Construction, Project Control and Quality Assurance. 
•    Will be introduced to METRO core departments to learn basic overall knowledge of METRO.
•    May perform general PEC functions determined by their section within PEC. 
•    Provides engineering support and performs with any combination of METRO in-house and/or external resources.
•    Assist with basic engineering design during the development of conceptual designs.
•    May performs basic engineering design and prepares drawings and other documents for minor detail design.
•    Participates in the coordination between METRO departments/division with specific projects.
•    Assists with outside agency coordination and communication on all project activities.
•    Assist with preparing technical documentation and reports.
•    Participates in interdepartmental meetings and outside agency meetings.
•    Assists in the preparation of proposals for projects.
•    Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
•    Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). 
•    Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
•    Performs other job-related duties as required.

Education Requirement

Bachelor's degree in architecture, planning, construction management or related degree.

Years & Experience Required

Experience or internships in Planning, Engineering, and Construction preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Good communication skills (written/verbal).  Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills.  Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
