Basic Function

Under supervision of Manager (Contracts & Internal Functions) surveys functions and activities in assigned areas to determine the nature of operations and the adequacy of the systems and controls to achieve established objectives in the Contracts or Internal Functions Department.  Build knowledge and provide support evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the management controls over those activities and determine whether organizational units are performing their planning, accounting, custodial, or control activities in compliance with management instructions, applicable laws and regulations, statements of policy and procedures, and in a manner consistent with METRO objectives.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

•    Initially meets and interacts with Audit’s Contracts and Internal Functions sections for an overall perspective of the Audit department.  After completion of the rotational program, the Associate will then join their primary Audit division.
•    Performs research and assists in determining the objectives and scope of the proposed audit effort.
•    Assists in determining the initial audit program steps for planning, fieldwork and reporting audit results and findings.
•    Performs assigned audit procedures and analysis of evidentiary data to discuss with supervisor the basis for an informed, objective opinion on the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of the system or activities being reviewed. 
•    Gain an understanding of audit department policy, Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and applicable Institute of Internal Auditors Standards (IIA).
•    Prepares draft written reports, as requested, expressing opinions on the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of the system and activities carried out within the department.
•    Assists in making presentations to management during and at the conclusion of the examination.
•    Assists in appraising the adequacy of the corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions.
•    Will be introduced to METRO core departments to learn basic overall knowledge of METRO.
•    Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
•    Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). 
•    Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
•    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, audit or related field required. 

Years & Experience Required

Experience and/or internships in Accounting/Auditing preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Demonstrated knowledge of auditing guidelines and professional standards preferred. Good interpersonal, analytical, time management, organizational, and writing skills.   Knowledge of PC and related Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel).
